Pavers include your waste % for cuts and breakage, rounded up to whole units.
Estimates only — confirm final quantities with your supplier, including extra for pattern and cut waste.
How it's calculated
Area ÷ paver footprint, plus a sand base.
We convert your paver's length and width to a footprint in square feet, divide your total area (plus waste) by that footprint, and round up — you can't buy part of a paver. We also estimate a 1-inch leveling sand layer across the same area, since almost every paver installation needs one.
FAQ
Common questions
How much extra should I order for cuts and breakage?
10% is a standard waste allowance for a rectangular layout. Increase it to 15–20% for a patio with curves, diagonal patterns, or a lot of edge cutting.
How deep should the sand base be under pavers?
A 1-inch leveling sand layer over a compacted gravel base is standard. The gravel base itself is usually 4–6 inches, depending on soil and traffic — see the gravel calculator for that layer.
What paver size should I enter?
Use the exact face dimensions of the paver you've chosen (a common size is 12×12 inches, but brick pavers, large-format slabs and irregular shapes all vary). Check the product listing or the paver itself.
Do I need edge restraints?
Yes — plastic, metal or concrete edging around the perimeter keeps pavers from shifting and spreading over time, especially on a driveway or high-traffic patio. Budget for it separately; it's not included in this estimate.
